Getting there … and such.

Thought I’ve not been very creative regarding writing, digital painting, drawing..or anything for that matter, I have been thinking about it an awful lot.

Now I know, like always, what you’re thinking, “Here we go again, another post about pulling up your boot straps and getting back on the horse and all of those other booster sayings that he’ll not follow as he is a lazy so and so”  And really, you’re right, I am…but with reason.  I’ve had a bit of a boost to my ego.

Jenz from Inside Artzine, sent me a parcel in the mail.  Do you know what that parcel was?  No, well I’ll not tell you, But instead, show you.

I know right, a magazine!!!!  But with a  difference, I’m featured in this one!

 Yay me!

The Odyssey begins … and such

The Odyssey begins … and such.

I’m coming to the realization that I go WAY too long without updating this blog’eroo, and like before, I know what you’re thinking…”You lazy piece of SHUT YO MOUTH, I’m only talking about Shaft”  At least i think you’re thinking that…nah, I’m rather sure you are.

So let’s see, news….  The art scene has been very quiet, and by quiet, I mean nonexistent.  I’ve not been drawing, painting, taking photos, digital art ….nuthin.  I have no excuse, but I also have no drive.

However, with that being said, Ryan (The Mcmillan kind) and I finally sat down to record our podcast of “In the Woods”.  This will be our fourth inaugural first podcast.  We speak of books, movies, video games and play a fast paced game of “would you rather”…  Not too sure if there is any humour for anyone other the Ryan (The Mcmillan kind) and myself, but it was fun to record.

Also, started at the gym last night…. I arms are so sore…and I can’t straiten them out.  It’s worth it in the long run I’m sure but wow….I’m sore.

So it’s not much, just a quick update of what’s going on

Live life in the woods.

Overdue, lacklustre update… and such.

How long has it been now since an update?  Too long, that’s how long.  And yet, not a lot has happened in the few short weeks.  Let me see…

I donated and sold some art and photo’s for a charity auction for T4G’s Spring Fling.  There was food, Music, drinks (Im still off of the beer for my New Year’s Resolution) and loads of people to chat with.  Russell Smith was the MC, keeping us entertained with his witty banter and T4G’s very own Foodie Joanna Killen lavished us with some of her sultry tone’s.  Mets lots of amazing folks like Steph Downey, Christiana Reardon, and Co workers from other G offices.  Loads of artwork and photography was sold and it was an all around good time.

What else…

At 33-ish, I’m the proud new owner of my very own drivers licence.  You will laugh but really I had never really needed one.  I lived in the Beautiful Saint John all of my life until the few recent years.  When in town, I walked or took a bus.  I have the street smarts yo….cred…you better recognize!!!  But yes, I now am a part of this thing we call traffic…  just like you all….y’all..  RECONIZE!

And then….

OH, Ryan (The McMillan kind) and I tried to record another podcast BUT again were thwarted by technical difficulty…please stand by.  We’re on the hunt for some mixing software. LIVE LIFE IN THE COUNTRY!  Recognise?

But then….

The Wifey-poo and I will soon relocate offices.  We will transition from out Saint John Office to our Moncton office.  Longer commute BUT it’s to the benefit of T4G and the Content team.  Im looking forward to the new digs but will miss some, NOT ALL, of the people I see every day (You know who youse are)

And all of the sudden…

I have recently became the proud owner of an ipad…I called her Maxi (See what i did there) and we are best’ies.

Spring has arrived and with that, some reasonable warmer weather…so with that…. more physical activity in which I’ll inevitably get hurt and damaged.  Like last year, I’ve began my mountain biking again.  That in itself is not dangerous but coupled with narrow roads and rednecks driving 70 in a 50 past me…it defiantly adds some spice, OR when I’m barrelling down an 60 degree pitch dirt road at 40 an hour that has been washed out by rain…  Jinkies…  I get a fit of nervous giggles that I’m sure wild life are embarrassed to hear.

Another way I’ll sustain copious amounts of damage…NOW, i know you’re thinking that I’ll be doing something extreme…like Bungee jumping out of a burning helicopter into a crocodile/shark hybrid infested pool, that is on fire..but no, the other way will I will be seriously hurt will be skateboarding with the boy.  He turns 10 in a few days and wanted a skateboard.  So needing to NOT be bored while he is falling down, I figured I’d get one to and fall down with him.  Good times.

Wish me luck in my recovery.

In closing I’ll leave you with a photoshoot I did with Ivon Gaudet(Photographer), Ryan Lavigne(photographer)  Mika Edison (Model) and me (Model????)

IT’s nice and creepy.

Hello world!

After plans falling through to visit Moncton NB due to an impending storm, I found myself drawing more. Gawd I love drawing, although, I would like to take art lessons. Figure drawing, oil painting…I don’t know, artsy classes.

I have a book on painting coming soon, it’s water colour painting. I look forward to creating zombies in watercolour. They’ll not only be horrific, but pastoral and scenic as well. I plan on revisiting some old zombie drawings and water colouring the hell out of them.

On another note, picked up Little Big Planet 2 this weekend. Fun as hell and much more enjoyable then the first.

Below are the drawings I was playing with this weekend. Feel free to comment.

Some such music… and such.

Let me start today by giving you a bit of insight as to what I’m listening to lately.  I love the curiosity of wondering  what people are listening to when I see them walking with their headphones or ear buds blasting music for only them.  I tend to assume, knowing I shouldn’t, I just cant help it.  IT of course is all based on looks.

If I see an oldster with his yellow, waterproof Sony walkman that he’s been feeding AA batteries for the past 20 years… He’s totally listening to Elvis.  A 50 plus lady out for a  power walk around her block?  Fleetwood Mac OR the Police, OR maybe even Winger.  Hipsters?  Something ironic…like an arian looking fella singing Jewish folk songs and such…  I assume.  It’s fun for me to wonder.

BUT what am I listening to?  A little something I like to call Alt folk (it’s a cooler way of saying country music I think)  Also, some amazing new bluegrass and of course the old staple…Metal.

Right now I have an Alt folk playlist I call “Folky Jams”  and it entails the following

All of these tracks, at the moment speak volumes to me.  This is mostly through the passion in which the singer brings fourth.  Mumford and Sons is a prime example of passion in song.  You feel it growing through “White Blank Page”.  But I love the subtle feel of parts of other tracks I have listed.

The Be Good Tanyas track “Waiting around to die”  ( originally done by Townes Van Zandt) has such a undertone of dust and despair.  It allows me to imagine the depression era, dustbowl farms and poverty.  O’ Brother Where Art Thou” coupled with  absolute hopelessness.

So some of my fav bands at the moment?

Folk:
Acres And Acres
Angus & Julia Stone
Band Of Horses
The Be Good Tanyas
Fleet Foxes
Horse Feathers
Kings Of Convenience
Mumford And Sons
Ray LaMontagne
Trampled By Turtles

(I’ll not bother with Metal links, cause no one would look)
Metal:
Unearth
Opeth
MASTODON
Hatebreed
Dry Kill Logic
Chevelle
Tool
Thrice
System Of A Down
Lamb Of God

I think that’s enough for now though I could go on all day about each band and how I feel when I play any of their music.  If you’ve made it this far through the post, thanks for reading and I hope you check out ALL OF THESE personal favourites and buy some of their albums.

Overdue update but a New Year… and such.

So…it’s the beginning of a new year and here I am, back into the daily grind of routine and work.  That being said, there are a few things to add to this daily grind, a few new things, a few promises to myself….Resolutions as it were.  Even though I am only promising them to myself, I’ll publish them here as well in order to remain accountable.

I have 3 already, 1 of them I’ve a failed at over and over so far, but also, as I list these 3, I’ll add a few more.  Now in order for them to work, they have to be attainable.  That is one of the reasons that I’ve already failed at one… more on that in a sec.  So my list

  1. Lose weight:  This is everyone’s goal it would seem and I’m sure you’re just thinking, “There goes Jeremy again, jumping on the bandwagon” and you’d be right…if I were in a band, and had a wagon, but I don’t.  My goal is to lose 50lbs.  Christmas day, I found myself on a scale and it read a rather high number… 247lbs.  SO I need to get to the less heavy weight of 200lbs.  Weight Watchers, Here I come.
  2. Quit drinking beer:  This one…Oooooo …this one, this one will be tough.  I LOVE beer.  I love beer more than my kidneys!  Mind you, I only say that because I still have 2 functioning ones so it’s an easy sell…  I’ve since taken up being a Wino.
  3. Stop swearing:  FAIL.  I think I woke up the day after making this resolution with a resounding F-bomb that, if heard by the masses, would have resulted in a collective gasp and judgemental finger pointing.

These are my main 3.  BUT to add to those and again, become more accountable, I’ll add a few more.

  1. Improve my art:  This one is wide open.  By this, I mean a few things, but the first and main point                   of it is simply to get better.  Also, I would couple that with finishing projects I set out for myself.  The main examples are my 4 Horsemen.  I’m almost done “Famine” BUT I’m not putting in the time that I feel I should.  Another aspect of this would be to get more involved with my sons art development.  When I was his age, I had no one to teach me about art.  I learned all I knew on my own. Now I’m a resource for a bourgeoning artistic mind and I need to take advantage of that.
  2. GET THE DAMN PODCAST STARTED:  Really this refers to Ryan and I wanting to GET THE DAMN PODCAST STARTED!

I feel that’s enough for now of this excessively generic list.  Though I faltered at quitting swearing, I’ve not failed. I just have to keep on it and soon, like smoking, it’ll be beat.  Now on to other news.

I was really excited to hear that I will have a place in the upcoming Abort Magazine.  They deal with a whole gambit of things from Hip-Hop culture to dark art like mine.  If all goes according, I hope to have a place not only in the digital pages, BUT also in the printed pages.  If I am fortunate to get in the printed pages, I know what I’m getting everybody for Christmas next year.  When I have more info on this, I’ll let youse all know!

For now…that is all.

Some such things… and such.

As I’ve not updated in a bit, I thought I’d just give a quick glimpse into what (nothing) is going on with me (not a whole lot).

First is just a bit of sketching from 2 weeks ago.  Mostly for the purpose of trying to keep my mind in a creative state opposed to a jelly like one.   This is my favourite type of art.  I love sketchbooks and such.  If ever I am at a book store, I am always on the hunt for Artist sketchbooks that are put out to the masses.  My most recent is Mike Butkus sketches of Zombies.  He also has one on vampires that I’ve yet to find.  If youse have any leads on any…let me know.

Second, for my Son’s after School programme, I sketched up some holiday themed colouring pages for the lil younger ones.  I like things like this as they are quick and flow’y, take very little effort BUT give kids motivation for flexing their creative muscles.  Everyone wins. J

Third…  I listen to some pretty amazing Podcasts and Tell Em Steve-Dave is my fave.  It consist of Bryan Johnson, Walt Flannigan and Brian Quinn “Q”.  Well, a few weeks ago, I received my Steve-Dave(Johnson)  and Fanboy (Walt) in the mail.  After looking at them for a bit I thought that they needed updating as they have since changed and Q didn’t even have an inaction figure.  So using my Photoshop Prowess, I built digital updated versions of the Tell em crew.  I may make a Ming Chen next BUT who knows.

And 4th, Last week I had to Design, and with the help of my Father-In-Law Bill, build my sons school float for the Sussex NB Christmas parade.  I didn’t take any photos BUT I essential recreated the school.  I’ll let youse use your imagination as it will look better imagined then it did in real life.

Finally, Ryan and I are gonna record the fabled Podcast soon (promise) and it should be a hood.  Stay tuned…..I’ll leave you with a quote from Walt Flannigan from Kevin Smith’s epic tal of “Mallrats”
“TELL EM STEVE-DAVE!”

I’ve been lazy …and such

So I’ve not updated in a few, why you ask?  Laziness.  Fo reals yo, flat out sloth like, lacklustre laziness.   Though the past little bit has been relatively uneventful, there are some things to update you on.

The first, it’s really more of a tease.  Flannel (Ryan Mcmillan) and I recorded our inaugural Podcast.  It consist of about 45 minutes of unadulterated hilarity.  It was just laugh after laugh with witty banter coupled with sickly insightful observations about the human condition, the foibles of society, and fellas getting fingered in November.  Nary a dick and fart joke in the mix….well…no fart jokes anyway.

Now after saying all of this, I’ll now tell you that No one will ever hear it.  Now I know you’re saying “But Jerm, that’s a right prick’ish thing to do on your part Nes Pas?” (that’s French for don’t you think asshole?)   and really, yeah, yeah it is, BUT ALSO it’s a terrible quality recording.  Now, instead of sullying the experience of Ryan’s and my melodious voices, it would be fruitful for all to get better recording equipment and proceed that way.  In a few days, I’ll pick up a digital voice recorder and we shall begin again.   Now I can’t promise that it will even hold a candle to our first, AMAZING, insightful secret podcast, BUT it’ll be damn good.

Secondly, I’ve volunteered to design the Christmas float for my youngest  sons School.  The theme is winter lights.  Not much more on that…  I was just sayin.

And Thirdly, I started the 3rd piece in my four Horseman series, Famine.  It’s the very bare base right now, BUT I’m confident that I should have it don’t in a week or two..  Updates to follow.

In closing, here is a photo of me wearing my T-shirt from Fwithpeople.com looking rather Canadian, and also I’ll leave you with some inspiring words of Ryan’s  Older Brother Rob as he stood beside me at a party this past weekend.  “Man…Did you just lean over and smell me??????”

You’re looking at a winner…and such

Now…I know what you’re thinking, “Jeremy, you’re so handsome, and funny and awesome”. I know, but that is beside the point, and really…I’m better before you get to know me. ANY HOODLE, I’ve had some really memorable moments in my life, that first kiss…with what’s his her face, almost failing art in Highschool, the first time I heard the band Tool, My wedding day, my demon child being born and slaughtering a small Nigerian village in sacrifice to his true Dark Father…(still me)…. AND this is just ONE MORE WIN for Jerm! And seeing as to how I won a T-Shirt from D-POP at fwithpeople.com…EVERYTHING is coming up Millhouse. Go check this site out. Some HILARIOUS correspondence with people which in turn, inevitably …these people get F’ed with. Good clean fun people GOOD CLEAN FUN
